A friend who I cared for very deeply was going through some sort of existential angst. Unfortunately, we were no longer close (if ever we even were) so there was nothing I could do to help. All I could do was to send my breath and my heart into the darkness and trust it to travel and comfort as it might.
This piece has been reconstructed at a scale much smaller and less functional than its original iteration (52”x 41” twin sized bed quilt in 2013) to speak to the intimacy of the emotion, as well as the practical impotence of the impulse.
