How do you honor someone who made a tremendous impact on the community without seeking the limelight for himself? JW Smith was heavily involved in church and civic activities, but he never bragged about his achievements. In additions to servings as a Deacon , he led or supported numerous ministries at his church.
Civically, he served on several community organizations to help improve the lives of his neighbors! When he died in his sleep, it was definitely a personal tragedy for his wife and family, but his passing was also a genuine loss to the community!
The next year, the community he served faithfully honored his memory by renaming the street where he lived in the Bronx, NY. Mickle Avenue was renamed JW Smith Way at block party that drew 500 in attendance! The 12th Council District paid tribute to a man who quietly influenced countless numbers of people by his presence, his perseverance and his propensity for love. What a great way to honor his memory!
